Michael is a social entrepreneur and the CEO / Chief Internet Strategist for Trellon, LLC. He works with non-profit, NGO, academic and socially responsible business clients as a strategic advisor on a range of technology, organization and communications issues. The company he founded, Trellon, is considered an elite consulting firm and plays a key role in the development of the Drupal and CiviCRM systems.

Michael has a passion for using open source tools to build thoughtful, effective solutions that achieve real world goals. He co-founded Trellon in 2003 in the midst of a presidential campaign, building open source tools for self-organizing and spreading the word through social networks. This work provided him with great insights into the potential for open source and online communities, and an understanding of the gaps that exist in the market for supporting such systems.

Working with causes he cares about in his role with Trellon, he has helped them to accomplish a wide variety of goals that include the following, along with many, many other worthy concerns.

* Using real-time satellite imagery to raise awareness of conflicts in Sudan and prevent the spread of violence

* Impacting mortality rates in infants within underserved populations throughout Africa and the South Pacific through the distribution of health kits via mobile devices

* Implementing portals for NGO, government and non-profit actors to more effectively collaborate in response to acute humanitarian issues

* Acting on the root casues of homelessness in cities in North America through the establishment of systems for providing services

* Fostering a culture of respect and dignity towards all living things through educational and research portals that connect international audiences

Michael is currently focused on the OpenProvost and CRM Core projects, aimed at innovating in the areas of online collaboration and relationship building within institutions.

Michael possesses dual degrees in English and Philosophy from Washington College in Chestertown Maryland. Beyond his professional interests, he is involved in numerous open source communities, active in US politics, and lives with his daughter just outside Washington, DC.
